Location: 38669 Hwy 77, Ashland, AL 36251 Title: Payroll Clerk/Back up Reports to: Payroll Manager Department: Finance (16030) Full-time Part-time Nonexempt Exempt Job Summary: The Payroll Clerk will process employees’ paychecks by collecting their payroll data/timesheets from AOD and moving them to SAP.
Their duties include: verifying employees’ work hours and payment through the payroll system, issuing deductions, earnings and other statements to employees and updating payroll records on a weekly basis.
The clerk will also train on other job roles in the Payroll department as a backup when needed, to be able to assist in all activities regarding the management of employee compensation in the company if others are unable to perform their duties.
The overall goal at the end of the day is processing payroll and with accuracy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Filing\Process New Hire paperwork • Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employees • Uploading bonuses and commissions when appropriate • Manage and calculate taxes and deductions • Initiate periodical payments timely either by preparing and administering checks or making direct deposits • Maintain records • Update paper and electronic payroll records by entering adjustments on pay rates, employee status changes etc.
• Calculate vacation/bereavement payments • Deal with complaints and questions regarding payroll from employees and upper management • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll • Prepare and submit VOEs on employees • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong computer skills such as Word, Excel, Entering Data, Calculator • Accurate data entry skills with great attention to detail • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate with employees regarding their issues and concerns.
• Good client service skills • Good Math Skills • Being an effective team player • Sound decision-making skills • Ability to multitask in a stressful environment with specific deadlines.
• Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment.
• Confidentiality and respect for the privacy of employee records • Organization Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Back up others in dept when needed.
Education and Experience • High school diploma or equivalent • Preferably at least 1 year in an office environment Working Conditions: • Hourly, Full-time on-site position operates in a professional corporate office environment within a manufacturing facility.
• Hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm or 8:00am to 4:30pm (pick one at hire)
