Job Summary
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development seeks candidates for an Accountant position.
The individual in this position performs routine professional accounting duties to control and document the handling of funds within an assigned area.
Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing financial statements/reports; making recommendations to improve internal controls, operating effectiveness and efficiency; and performing other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Functions Creates and maintains accounts through documentation, compilation, reconciliation, and analysis of financial information and preparation of journal entries.
Reviews transactions for conformity with procedures or limits, and closes out accounts for expired contracts.
Communicates with internal departments and/or sponsoring agencies to ensure compliance with policies, contracts, grants, laws, regulations, or procedures.
Conducts reviews to substantiate transactions.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a degree plus a CPA Level I- Bachelor’s degree Level II- Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in accounting services.
Level III- Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of experience in accounting services.
Substitutions allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications Minimum Skills and Abilities Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures in accounting and accounting services.
Minimum Technology Skills Minimum License and Certifications Desired Qualifications Desired Qualifications An aptitude for working with and preparing detailed accounting reports; possess a high degree of accuracy and excellent time management skills; Able to work well with sponsor agencies and administrators, faculty, and staff; Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience reviewing sponsored awards, familiarity with federal regulations, and Banner knowledge are desired.
