ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Valid Alabama professional educator certificate.
Certification in English as a Second Language (ESL).
Minimum of three (3) years successful classroom experience
Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No.
2002-457

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programming specific to the needs of ESL students.
Ability to use technology to communicate, plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required report, correspondence, and/or financial information.
Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
JOB GOAL:
To coordinate the assessment, placement and instruction of ESL students in a designated service area.
To serve as a resource to the staff and faculty at each of the schools in the assigned area through large group in-service and individual consultations.
To train ESL Instructional Aides in ESL teaching strategies and in the use of specialized materials.
To work collaboratively with the ESL Program Supervisor to develop program guidelines and to compile program data.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
Conducts in-service training for classroom teachers, administrators, and support personnel regarding English Language Learners (ELLs) and strategies and procedures for serving language minority students.
Schedules meetings for the English as a Second Language (ESL) team to review pertinent information and make recommendations concerning the placement of each student in the ESL Program.
Monitors the academic progress of all ELL students in the regular program and makes recommendations to the regular classroom teachers concerning instructional modifications for ELL students.
Provides ESL instruction to K-12 English Language Learners.
Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student learning.
Models use of technology for students and staff.
Keeps record of daily mileage traveled and submits mileage report to base school at the first of each month.
Submits information and updates to the Federal Programs Director regarding all ELL’s enrolled in the system.
Attends professional development training each year regarding ELL programs and procedures.
Keeps accurate and up-to-date student folders of all ELL’s in the school district; including all assessment data, team meeting documentation, progress reports and pertinent correspondence.
Administers placement test and spring ACCESS assessment to ELLs in the designated service area.
Demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
Serves on committees, representative bodies, task forces, or as a system delegate as needed.
Attends staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge.
Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
Responds to inquiries and request in a timely and positive manner.
Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
Uses collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state, federal and local laws.
Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's salary schedule.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s performance assessment policy for certified personnel.
