Job Description: As an REA, you’ll be based in one of the following counties: Marengo or Choctaw, working in a 100% non-tenure track faculty Extension assignment covering multiple counties.
Program Priority Area: Animal Science and Forages Geographic Area: West Central Alabama Region (Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Choctaw, Marengo, Dallas, Wilcox counties).
Responsibilities: Organize, deliver, and evaluate educational programs for livestock, equine, and forage production.
Focus on research-based management practices and their environmental and animal well-being impacts.
Utilize various methods, including printed communication, workshops, applied research, farm consultation visits, social media, and web resources.
Participate in writing grants and support applied research/demonstrations beneficial to clientele.
Assist in project outcome and impact evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in animal science, agronomy, or a related field.
Possess relevant work experience in your field of study.
Skills and Knowledge: Showcase your ability to plan and execute educational programs in animal science and forages.
Demonstrate practical knowledge of environmental best practices in livestock and forage production.
Be familiar with basic computer operations and software, including Microsoft Word, Explorer, Excel, and Outlook.
Communication and Teamwork: Exhibit effective communication skills.
Work cooperatively with individuals and groups.
Outreach Readiness: Be willing to use various outreach methods for program delivery.
Travel Requirements: Be prepared for regular travel to fulfill Extension responsibilities.
Possess access to reliable transportation.
Desired Qualifications Education or Equivalent Experience: Preferably hold a Master’s degree in animal science, agronomy, or a related field.
Alternatively, have 3 to 5 years of practical work experience in place of a Master’s degree.
If lacking a Master’s degree, commit to obtaining it within five years after completing the probationary period.
Cattle and Forage Expertise: Possess knowledge and hands-on experience with cattle and forage production systems in the Southeastern United States.
Collaborative and Leadership Experience: Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with individuals, coworkers, and teams.
Showcase your leadership skills through roles in college, career, or community activities.
Tech-Savvy Skills: Exhibit proficiency in using electronic and online technologies for educational program delivery.
Teaching Background: Successfully taught livestock and forage production in formal or non-formal settings.
Communication Skills: Showcase your communication abilities through publications, presentations, web content, or social media.
Special Instructions to Applicants Minimum Starting Salary: $43,860 for a Bachelor’s Degree $47,860 for a Master’s Degree Salary increases for years of relevant, professional work experience.
