Job Description Summary
The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking qualified applicants to fill a faculty position in cardiology.
The successful candidate will enter either a clinical (non-tenure eligible) or a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, or a non-tenure eligible Professor of Practice position, depending on experience, goals, and professional qualification.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching and clinical service.
Research responsibility will vary according to type of position.
Teaching responsibilities include the clinical and didactic instructional activities of the professional veterinary medicine and postgraduate training programs related to cardiology.
Clinical service and research responsibilities are negotiable and will depend on the successful candidate’s interests and the type of appointment.
Ample opportunity exists to participate in established research programs on campus.
Candidates interested in a clinical or tenure track position would have a full-time, 12-month appointment.
Candidates interested in a Professor of Practice position could be full time or part time.
Excellent communication skills are required within small groups as well as large lecture hall settings.
The Cardiology service at Auburn values collegiality and teamwork skills.
The successful candidate would join another ACVIM board-certified full-time cardiologist.
A specialty internship and residency program are also established in cardiology.
We offer a strong interventional caseload with mentorship available for junior faculty.
The cardiology service is equipped with GE Vivid E95 echocardiography with transthoracic and 4D trans-esophageal capabilities, EchoPAC digital database and review station, Philips Pagewriter TC70 ECG, digital telemetry, Medtronic Lifepak 20 biphasic defibrillator, digital Holter units, and on-site pacemaker programmers (Dextronic, Medtronic, St.
Jude).
The service has a dedicated stand-alone interventional technique and catheterization laboratory that is extensively stocked and is equipped with Biopac hemodynamic monitoring system, a GE Nuboom surgical imaging system, and a GE OEC 9900 digital fluoroscopy C-arm for minimally invasive procedures.
The Cardiology service is also supported by digital radiography, ultrasonography, nuclear medicine, 64-slice CT with ECG-gating and dedicated cardiac monitor workstation.
Other services available in the hospital include a 3T MRI, video endoscopy, Varian Edge™ linear accelerator, and radiotherapy facilities.
There is a full-time dedicated technician for the cardiology clinical service.
Minimum Qualifications
The qualified applicant must hold a DVM or equivalent degree and have successfully completed at least 1 year of residency training in cardiology within the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM).
By the time employment begins, the applicant must have completed a cardiology residency training program and have achieved Diplomate status or be eligible to sit for the ACVIM or ECVIM certifying examination.
For a tenure-track position, research experience is desired.
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Eligibility for faculty veterinary licensure in the State of Alabama is also required.
