Position Summary
The primary responsibility of the Student Life Coordinator is to oversee, provide leadership and perform tasks related to the planning, organizing, and supervising of the delivery of co-curricular and extra-curricular programs for Southern Union students.
Responsible for coordinating student organizations, programs, and events within the College that contribute to the overall experience and success of students.
Salary: Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule E: (Salary range: $44,333 - $66,832 Annually) Benefits: Full time employees are entitled to the College’s benefit package to include: PEEHIP, retirement, leave (annual, sick, and personal).
ANTICIPATED START DATE: December 2023 Essential Duties and Responsibilities Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
Knowledge of housing safety codes, regulations and emergency procedures.
Verbal communication skills to participate in committee work, conduct community service activities, interact with colleagues and visitors to campus.
Skills to effectively communicate with students and attitude of concern and interest in issues important to them.
Written communication skills to conduct general correspondence, develop student life programs, and prepare reports.
Ability to work productively with students to develop or improve decision making skills and facilitate personal growth.
Ability to work productively with colleagues, Associate Dean of Students, and administration on various institutional objectives.
Ability to establish priorities and work independently.
Ability and willingness to grow professionally through personal professional improvement programs and formal education experiences.
Willingness to work nights, weekends, and other non-standard hours when required.
Willingness to attend workshops and other activities involving travel of several days.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, student leaders and club/organization sponsors to plan events of interest to students.
Assess interest of students through surveys, panel discussions and focus groups to identify interests and level of satisfaction with programs, services and seminars.
Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Network with the local community, non-profits and service organizations to establish partnerships to offer services to students.
Partner with administrators, faculty and staff in the divisions of Student Development, Health Sciences, Academic, Technical Education, and Adult Education to support programs and projects as assigned.
Demonstrate an inclusive awareness and respect for diverse populations of students.
Expand campus clubs and organizations to reflect the interest of enrolled students and current community college trends.
Seek service opportunities for faculty, staff and student body in the local community.
Seek opportunities to partner with other divisions of the college as well as community organizations, vendors, businesses andnon-profit agencies in the course of planning and implementing Student Life activities.
Knowledgeable of community resources and ability to mobilize resources.
Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
Excellent judgment and organizational skills, with attention to detail, accuracy and follow-up.
Superb interpersonal and communication skills dealing with a wide range of constituents including students, faculty, staff members, alumni, and visitors.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, and prioritize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Services, Counseling or related field from an accredited institution is required.
Experience working with students in a college setting or experience in event planning.
Excellent writing and editing skills are required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Supervisory experience is preferred.
