Position Title Assistant/Associate Professor, Soil Science (Tenured-Track)
Job Summary
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Soil Sciences and Data Analytics (including statistics) and courses may vary depending on the needs of the department and students
Essential Job Duties
Establish and lead a nationally recognized, innovative, and extramurally funded research program that focuses on integrated agriculture systems with a focus on soils and plant-soil interactions.
Develop an interdisciplinary, systems-based research program in soil and soil-plant interactions that directly addresses the areas of the Alabama and Black Belt region and beyond.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Soil Sciences and Data Analytics (including statistics) and courses may vary depending on the needs of the department and students.
Provide quality mentorship that contributes to the matriculation of graduate students, undergraduate students, and other scholarly researchers.
Publish scholarly work in high-impact peer reviewed journals.
Lead and contribute to federally funded grants.
Contribute to service to the department, college, university, and community.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.
D.
in Soil Science, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a related discipline with an emphasis in interdisciplinary and systems-based approaches to study agroecosystems.
Research or practical experience working with more than one of the following: cover cropping, crop rotation, tillage, nutrient management, nutrient cycling (i.
e.
, closed-loop systems to reduce off-farm inputs), soil-microbe nutrient relations.
Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
Previous experience in Extension in a land-grant university setting
Emphasis is placed on demonstrated research that has a focus on Alabama and Black belt South agroecosystems and those that address the challenges of climate change on agroecosystems.
Demonstrated experience working effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication with scientific colleagues, science stakeholders, and the general public in the local, national, and international arena.
Demonstrated a strong track record of publications and grants in the areas above.
Demonstrated a strong track record of teaching excellence and educational and curriculum development.
Demonstrated leadership and service to respective organization(s).
