Position Title Title IX Coordinator
Job Summary
As a key member of the Student Affairs leadership team, the Title IX Coordinator furthers the University’s commitment to protecting educational access, advancing gender equity, and responding to allegations of sexual harassment, sexual violence, and gender discrimination.
This position coordinates and facilitates the institution’s compliance with Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, to develop and implement educational programs regarding discrimination and sexual harassment prevention, ensuring faculty, staff and students understand their rights and, where applicable, responsibilities under the law.
The Title IX Coordinator shall oversee and coordinates investigations, responses, and resolutions to complaints, to include supervision of investigators if necessary.
The Title IX Coordinator shall collaborate with campus entities and university leadership to identify and address systemic problems.
Essential Job Duties The Title IX Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to coordinate compliance with Title IX, receive and process complaints from students, faculty, staff, administrators and third parties concerning violations of Title IX, as well as including grievance procedures for resolving Title IX complaints.
Investigate complaints and reports of harassing or other discriminatory behavior implicating violation of Title IX, the Campus SaVE Act, VAWA or the Clew Act and if appropriate, refer inquiries to other university offices, such as student services, human resources, or the Campus Police.
Ensures investigations are adequate, reliable, timely, confidential, and impartial; reviews proposed sanctions for sexual misconduct before they are imposed to ensure that they are reasonably calculated to stop the sexual misconduct and prevent its recurrence.
Coordinate and monitor Title IX, Clery Act, Violence Against Women, and Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Acts, as well as the efforts of other delegates and University offices that receive and/or investigate complaints, including but not limited to Human Resources, Student Judiciaries, Tuskegee University Police Department and Tuskegee University Athletics.
Serve as a liaison officer to state and federal government compliance or investigation officers.
Assume primary responsibility for the annual preparations of required institutional reports and documentations, as required by external bodies, e.
g.
, Campus Crime Statistics Report, Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, and the Title IX Report to the NCAA.
Ensures ongoing compliance with Title IX by collecting and analyzing data, compiling comprehensive reports, and maintaining records of investigations.
Serves on University Title IX planning and policy-making committees; recommends and participates in the development of University Title IX policies and procedures.
Identifies systemic problems relating to complaints and determines whether campus-wide resources should be adopted in response, including review and revision of the University’s sexual misconduct policies, increased monitoring, supervision, or security at locations where sexual misconduct is reported to occur, and increased education and prevention efforts to targeted populations.
Serves as campus security authority as outlined in the Clery Act.
Prepare and disseminate educational materials, including brochures, posters, and web-based materials that inform members of the campus community of Title IX, the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA,) and Safe and Drug- Free Schools and Communities Acts and related policies, rights, and responsibilities, to the campus community.
Coordinate or provide annual education, awareness, and other mandatory training for students, faculty, and staff addressing their rights and responsibilities under Title IX, Campus SaVE Act, the Clery Act, and VAWA, and grievance procedures for each.
Coordinate and identify opportunities and take action to build an effective inter-departmental and cross-divisional relationship to achieve institutional compliance goals.
Ensures that senior University officials are fully informed of any Title IX issues that arise.
Receive and respond to requests for information, resources, and rights and responsibilities under Title IX, including no contact orders and inf01mation concerning interim and permanent measures.
Provide all required notices to the parties, including notice of rights, investigation updates, outcomes, and appeal rights.
Conduct interviews, procure relevant materials and prepare a recommendation concerning whether the complaint/grievance should proceed to a disciplinary hearing.
Organizes and maintains files reports and other records related to Title IX compliance including annual reports of the number and nature of filed complaints and the disposition of complaints, data collection and pattern monitoring.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training) A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, Master’s degree or a Juris Doctorate preferred.
A minimum of four years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified preferred.
Training and experience investigating complaints of sex discrimination.
Knowledge of current Title IX regulations, OCR guidance, and the recipient institution’s policies and grievance procedures are sufficient to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the Title IX coordinator.
Title IX Investigator or Coordinator Certification desired.

Ability to provide effective and appropriate advice and expertise to all levels within the university community.
Ability to provide technical advice and information to faculty and staff related to Title IX.
