Position Information Position Title Assistant Professor & Interim Department Head Job Summary The Department Head’s responsibilities are to be a leader among the faculty in the developing strong student advising, teaching, research, public service and academic programs within the department.
In addition to teaching, research and service, the Head will decide in academic matters of selection, retention, tenure, promotion, and work assignments of faculty and department personnel, apply academic policy, respond to student needs, pursue the accreditation process of the academic programs within the department, oversee use and maintenance of department facilities and equipment, prepare and administer departmental budgets, and develop and maintain both internal and external relationships to the department.
The Head will also be responsible for performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the college dean .
Essential Job Duties Additional responsibilities for this position include teaching courses within the Construction Management Program.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing leadership toward achievement of the highest possible level of excellence in the teaching, research, and service activities of the department.
The academic department head will: • Maintain the academic quality and vitality of the department’s programs, including oversight of curriculum expansion, faculty development, and the expansion of scholarship and research activities; • Recruit and retains faculty consonant with the department’s mission an goals; involves faculty and other relevant constituents in broad decision making and planning through ongoing consultations; • Engage in fundraising activities internally and externally; • Oversee program assessment and ACCE accreditation compliance and reports • Coordinate the scheduling of departmental course offerings; • Manage the department budget efficiently; • Maintain updated records and create update on program development for undergraduate and the CSM minor’s program which may lead to a new graduate degree program ; • Ensure smooth daily operation of the department and oversee CSM faculty; • Communicate effectively information regarding policies, procedures, decisions, and relevant activities and events to all departmental constituencies; • Teach a minimum of 6 credit hours; and • Other duties as assigned by the dean Preferred Qualifications • Ph .
D.
in construction, engineering, or related discipline Preferred Qualifications • Construction management experience working within the industry • One ( l) or more years of professional practice and college teaching experience in a ACCE-accredited program • Experience with integrated practice, community outreach, and/or collaborative learning • Demonstrated organizational and team building skills, with the ability to foster productive relationships among students, faculty, alumni, local, and national professionals • An ability to demonstrate knowledge of externally funded academic research and scholarly publications • Have record and proof of professional development and profession academic experience • Full knowledge of pedagogical issues in construction science in the United States • Experience with an engineering/construction academic accreditation process (i.
e.
-ABET, ACCE, etc.
) • Professional credentials (i.
e.

, LEED, CPC, DBIA, CMAA, etc.
