It has joined forces this year with the Every Child Matters Education Fund, a DC-based non-profit dedicated to raising awareness on issues affecting children, including child health, education, child poverty and the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Preferred subjects for photographs submitted are those related to these and related issues. In past years, the Colors of Life International Photo Contest has provided attention, fundraising opportunities and financial support for organizations with charitable and humanitarian goals, in particular those engaged in activities aimed at improving the quality of life of children. The 30 finalist images will be submitted to Ms. Ann M. Shumard, Curator of Photographs at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, who will select the first, second and third prize-winning photos, entitled to cash prizes of $1,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively, along with the photos earning honorable mention.
