COLORS OF LIFE TEAMS WITH EVERY CHILD MATTERS IN 5TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL PHOTO CONTEST Groups Aim to Benefit Children Through Art Colors of Life has announced the call for entries for its fifth annual 2011 International Photo Contest, entitled “Every Child Matters.” Colors of Life is a non-profit company embracing the idea that, by combining art with charitable activities, the quality of life and conditions of less-fortunate children can be improved. It has joined forces this year with the Every Child Matters Education Fund, a DC-based non-profit dedicated to raising awareness on issues affecting children, including child health, education, child poverty and the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Preferred subjects for photographs submitted are those related to these and related issues. In past years, the Colors of Life International Photo Contest has provided attention, fundraising opportunities and financial support for organizations with charitable and humanitarian goals, in particular those engaged in activities aimed at improving the quality of life of children. The goal of this year’s competition is to produce a documentary-style exhibition from the 30 finalist photographs that will be utilized by Every Child Matters in exhibitions and other events to call attention to the efforts needed on behalf of children. The 30 finalist images will be submitted to Ms. Ann M. Shumard, Curator of Photographs at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, who will select the first, second and third prize-winning photos, entitled to cash prizes of $1,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively, along with the photos earning honorable mention. The 30 finalist and prize-winning photos will be displayed at a gala exhibition in Washington, DC in the fall of 2011, as well as other venues selected by Every Child Matters and Colors of Life.
