Job Title: Medical Education Specialist Department: Medical Education Date: March 1, 2024 FLSA: Non-Exempt Work Location: Auburn Campus Employee Category: Classified Staff Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00am – 5:00pm Reports to: Director for Medical Education Percent Employment: 100 % Direct Reports: N/A I. Job Summary: The Medical Education Specialist will assist in the daily operations of the Office of Medical Education at the MHSA-Auburn campus. The position will be responsible for compiling and formatting all classroom exams, administering, and grading exams, maintaining, and calculating grades, posting of all teaching materials, and administering class assessments. The position will have significant interaction with both students and faculty. An amicable, professional demeanor is essential. II. Job Duties: 1. Compile and finalize format of all classroom exams. 2. Assure that all classroom resources and electronics are in proper working order and monitor the aesthetics of the classroom. Notify facilities personnel for any necessary maintenance to electronics and classroom resources and remove dated items from the classroom. 3. Administer and complete data analysis of all exams. 4. Maintain and calculate grades in all classroom and laboratory courses. 5. Post all teaching materials, including online course material. 6. Review all item analysis from exams and post grades for students once approved by the Director of Medical Education and Program Director. 7. Submit all course final grades to the Director for Medical Education at the end of each block. 8. Organize and maintain Office of Medical Education files and records. 9. Communicate effectively with all levels of faculty, staff, and students. 10. Track students’ daily class attendance. 11. Post daily lectures to Bluefield TV. 12. Assure that all classroom resources and electronics are in proper working order and monitor the aesthetics of the classroom. Notify facilities personnel for any necessary maintenance to electronics and classroom resources. 13. Assist faculty with syllabi formatting, Canvas LMS design and formatting, and exam item uploading 14. Assist the Director of Student Academic Success with the Peer Tutor program at MHSA- Auburn during Blocks 1 and 3, including identification and recommendation of strong candidates for peer tutoring 15. Work closely with the Director of Medical Education and the Director of Student Academic Success to identify and refer academically at-risk students 16. Perform other duties as assigned. III. Required Qualifications: • Education: Bachelor’s degrees in Education, Computer Science, or related field preferred • Experience: Experience in higher education preferred, but not required. Skills required for this position: • Strong organizational skills are a must. • Ability to multitask and complete daily work with frequent interruptions • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills • Strong team player • Commitment to company values • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn and master educational software such as Canvas, iClicker, TrueLearn, ExamSoft, Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom Preferences are given to candidates who have the following skills or attributes: Experience in higher education, proficiency in MS Office Suite (specifically Excel and/or Word), Canvas, and ExamSoft. Successful candidate will be subject to a criminal history background check. Regular, reliable or predictable attendance is an essential function of the job. IV. Working Conditions and Efforts: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires a rapid pace, some days with long hours to meet expectations, long distance driving to rural sites, and the ability to organize, interpret, and utilize a large volume of information. Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to ambulate (may be with use of assisted devices); sit, stand (or accommodate for standing); use hands and vision for teaching; use office equipment such as computers; speak to large and small groups of individuals for teaching; perform moderate telephone and poly-com communication/usage; occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; drive distances up to five hours or to fly on occasion to other campuses or meetings. Work environment: Office environment. Outside travel required 0% to 5% of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal, however the reception area with frequent visitors, phone calls and discussions may be distracting. This position is classified as a non-exempt position because it does not require that the candidate/employee exercise independent judgment and discretion regarding matters of significance.
