Job Description Summary
Gut Pathogens-Microbiome Laboratory (GPML) at the Auburn University Department of Pathobiology has an open position for a Post-doctoral Research Associate.
The focus areas of GPML include pathogenesis and molecular epidemiology of human and animal C.
difficile infection, effects of gut dysbiosis-associated metabolites on gut-brain axis with special emphasis on neurodevelopmental diseases, and microbiota-based therapeutic strategies for various human and animal diseases.
The selected candidate will be primarily involved in designing, managing and executing various ongoing, upcoming, and future research projects.
The personnel hired for this position will also be in charge of planning, managing, and executing ongoing and future research projects, analyzing research results, supervising and training graduate and undergraduate students, and working with the principal investigator (Dr.
Shaan Mooyottu) for publishing manuscripts, and preparing and submitting independent and collaborative research proposals.
Minimum Qualifications
· A PhD in microbiology, biomedical science, animal science, or related fields at time of employment.
· Expertise and extensive experience in any one of the following two at time of employment:
· Advanced genomic/metagenomic analysis of human and animal microbiota with experience in the tissue and cell-based molecular techniques.
OR
· Advanced neurobiology or neurotoxicology techniques with expertise in tissue and cell-based molecular techniques on the mouse brain, and/or experience in rodent behavior experiments
Desired Qualifications
Combination of at least any three of the following:
· Extensive experience in planning and executing rodent experiments.
· Experience in experimental neuroscience or neurobiology with mouse brain tissue processing
· Experience in rodent behavioral trial
· Expertise in genomic/metagenomic analysis
· Knowledge of genomics and/or statistical applications such as R, QIIME-II, Geneious, etc
· Knowledge of basic or advanced molecular techniques, including Western Blot, spatial genomics, single-cell transcriptomics, Immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, etc.
· Experience assisting in surgical or medical procedures.
