*Lake Martin Family Medicine is looking to hire a full time Certified Phlebotomist Tech (CPT)/Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to act as a laboratory assistant.
Pay is $13/hr DOE.
Must be certified with experience.
* *Position Overview:* Under supervision of office manager, physician or nurse practitioner, provides direct care to patients in the clinic, exemplifies and oversees compliance with ethical codes of conduct and standards of care in clinical practice, and maintains organizational and clinical resources.
*Qualifications*: *REQUIRED* Must be Certified Phlebotomist Tech (CPT) certified or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certified.
*\*\*Experience is required*.
SPECIFIC DUTIES: Responsible for laboratory compliance as listed below and must comply with working hours of Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.
*Laboratory Procedures:* Organize all necessary supplies and equipment before starting any procedure.
Follow each test’s directions accurately.
Perform Quality Control as necessary and directed.
Be sure supplies are stored at proper temperature and in the appropriate place.
Make sure there are adequate supplies and reagents for the next time the test will be run.
Clean up involves putting the reagents away and disposing of specimens.
Be able to draw venous/finger stick blood samples and arterial blood gases according to existing laboratory policies, administer post-phlebotomy care to all patients, and is aware of complications that might occur from these procedures.
Following the established laboratory protocol, properly labels all specimen tubes and processes all accompanying request forms/electronic orders.
Orders requested tests in the EHR system and lab management system.
Processes daily reports for physicians, clinics and medical records.
Prepares specimens for analysis and/or shipment to reference laboratory.
Prepares daily specimen shipment to reference laboratory, prints manifest and verifies accuracy of shipment.
Performs clerical duties including: laboratory turn-around-time data, verification of billing charges, answering the telephone and directing calls, managing faxes and filling reports/requests.
Maintains a neat and well-stocked phlebotomy tray and drawing room.
Deficiencies in phlebotomy supplies are reported to the clinic medical director and office manager as needed.
Orders reference laboratory supplies each week or as needed.
Dispenses courier for specimen pickup or delivery to other medical institutions.
Assists in daily inventory of general supplies, records need for supplies, reports need for emergency supplies to clinic medical director or office manager prepares and places orders.
Maintains general housekeeping of laboratory.
Understands and abides by all hospital and department safety procedures and infection control guidelines.
Fills position as the safety representative for the laboratory.
Attends monthly safety meetings, maintains monthly safety meeting file and reports back to the clinical medical director/ office manager.
Maintains laboratory safety program.
Works overtime and other shifts as required by scheduling and staffing deficiencies.
Performs all additional tasks assigned by the clinic medical director/ officer manager.
Maintains pulling lab results from CPSI to import into EHR system to ensure quick turnaround time for lab results.
*RHC Waived Lab CLIA Laboratory Certificate* The following tests can be performed on-site at Lake Martin Family Medicine and has received certification as a waived lab under the 1992 CLIA standards.
The clinic provides basic laboratory services essential to the immediate diagnosis and treatment of the patient, including: 1.
Chemical examinations of urine by stick or tablet methods or both (including urine keytone); 2.
Hemoglobin or hematocrit; 3.
Blood sugar; 4.
Examination of stool specimens for occult blood; 5.
Pregnancy tests; 6.
Primary culturing for transmittal to a certified laboratory.
*Immunization Compliance with Public Health Standards Tasks* Pull schedule the day before patients are seen and if time permits, check to see if all children are up to date, (UTD), on their vaccinations.
If any child is not UTD, investigate why.
Check the state website, imprint, and then check the last doctor’s office the child had an appointment with.
Check all of our EMR records during investigation.
If a current immunization record cannot be found and the child is not UTD, will discuss shots with the parent/caregiver at the child’s appointment the following day.
On the following day, at each child’s appointment, if unsuccessful at finding a current vaccination record, talk with each parent/caregiver to see if they have a record with them or know who we can call to get the UTD record.
If a child is behind on a vaccination(s) and is too sick for immunization(s), make sure that the parent/caregiver makes a follow-up visit for the next immunization(s) or an immunization(s) the child has missed.
Calculate the time on these vaccinations to make sure they are given in the proper sequence.
*\*\*\*NOTE\*\*\* Vaccinations cannot just be given at any time.
They have specific months between the sequences.
* After all of this has been completed and the child is well enough to get the immunization(s), administer the vaccination(s).
Make the parent/caregiver a blue card for school, a copy for the parent/caregiver’s records, charts all of the vaccinations in our EMR, and puts the child’s immunization(s) in the state website, imprint.
Keep a handwritten ledger with all of the vaccinations we administer which helps with ordering.
Keep imprint up to date with our active patients and take out any inactive patients.
*MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:* · Must comply with accepted professional standards and practice.
· Must have good oral and written communication skills and be organized.
· Interpersonal skills required to instruct patients and their families, as well as, professional interaction with a variety of clinic personnel.
· Ability to walk and stand almost constantly, as well as, lift and position patients.
· Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures, fire, safety, disaster plans and infection control policies.
· Knowledge of patient rights.
*WORKING CONDITIONS:* · Works in clean, air conditioned, general office environment.
· Work requires standing and walking for long periods.
· Work requires occasionally handling heavy patients.
· Some sitting, stooping, kneeling, turning, pulling and lifting required.
· Frequent phone activity.
· Work requires hearing ability and visual acuity.
· Subject to a fast paced, high stressed routine.
· Possible bio-hazard exposure to communicable diseases.
· Frequently assigned to changing priorities.
· Normal patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust or temperature.
· Subject to stress, frustration and fatigue.
· May be subject to verbal abuse by patients and family.
· Personal protective equipment is provided by the clinic and available for protection of personnel.
