CI² Aviation’s Air Traffic Manager’s Job Description for Auburn University Regional Airport (AUO) The Air Traffic Manager (ATM) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of air traffic control (ATC) services at Auburn University Regional Airport (AUO).
The ATM independently plans, prioritizes, and executes air traffic control operations to ensure the safe and efficient flow of aircraft at AUO in accordance with CI² Aviation/AUO/FAA policy and guidance.
the ATM is also responsible for fulfilling the duties outlined in the AUO / CI² Aviation’s Air Traffic Controller's Job Description.
The ATM is the main point of contact for all AUO business matters.
Air Traffic Management Responsibilities: Directs the operation, both in scope and complexity.
Independently make day-to-day operational decisions concerning air traffic flow, following established FAA policies and procedures.
Collaborate with FAA facilities, Auburn University Regional Airport Director, and aviators to optimize air traffic control strategies.
Determines the need for and develops specialized procedures to meet local requirements or recommends changes in standard procedures.
This includes procedures for implementation of noise abatement, developing letters of agreement, etc.
Participates in investigations of accidents/incidents.
Assures proper reporting of all incidents or irregularities.
Makes major recommendations and takes action on matters such as: Providing input on planning including radio and communication needs, additional positions of operation, personnel requirements, and other requirements necessary to meet the projected needs of AUO.
Continually evaluates existing services and traffic flows in order to assure effective use of available resources.
Maintains a continuing program of evaluation to determine the quality and adequacy of services rendered through personal observation, monitoring, and regular contacts with all types of users.
Continually evaluates the facility's operation effectiveness with a view toward improvement.
Ensures that procedures used do not discriminate against the different types of aviation users.
Maintains contacts with airport directors and aviation groups to determine the adequacy of service; determine needs and future requirements, to discuss alleged pilot deviations, explain regulations and services, and to encourage a better understanding of the system.
Conducts annual Runway Safety Action Teams (RSAT) meetings.
Attend meetings with the airport director on a regular basis to discuss programs, problems, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Administration Assures the maintenance of facility records, adequate supplies, satisfactory equipment operation, and adequate employee working conditions.
Assures facility compliance with both technical and administrative FAA, CI² Aviation, and AUO Designs terminal procedures and internal operating procedures to affect an even distribution of workload.
Recommends to Area Manager changes in resources and equipment necessary to meet increasing demands for service due to increased activity and improved technology in aircraft.
Strives to reduce operating costs without impairing overall operations, e.

Liaison for CI² Aviation and Auburn University Regional Airport Director concerning air traffic operations.
Serves as the Training Administrator for the Facility training program.
The training program is established for certification and proficiency.
The training program is documented and conducted in accordance with FAA JO 3120.

Identifies training needs for air traffic controllers and arranges for necessary programs.
Manages facility records and supplies.
Facilitator for Safety Risk Management (SRM) panel.

Leadership and Supervision: Lead and motivate a team of air traffic controllers, fostering a positive work environment.
Assign duties, provide training and development opportunities, and evaluate employee performance.

Communication and Collaboration: Maintain communication with CI² Aviation and AUO to address concerns, discuss service needs, and ensure effective air traffic management.
Host regular meetings to discuss airport operations and receive feedback from stakeholders.
Provide guidance and explanations on air traffic regulations and services.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure the airport adheres to all FAA, CI² Aviation, and AUO technical and administrative regulations, prioritizing safety in all operations.
Conduct accident/incident investigations and ensure proper reporting procedures.
Qualifications: US Citizenship is required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a certified FAA, military, or FCT Air Traffic Controller with 2 years as an ATM or equivalent.
Must have a current or previous Control Tower Operation (CTO) Certificate or an Air Traffic Safety Oversight (AOV) Must pass an annual medical examination, drug screening, and background check as mandated by the FAA, CI² Aviation, and AUO.
This position is subject to drug and/or alcohol testing per the DOT/FAA requirements (pre-employment, random, reasonable cause/suspicion, post-accident).
Must obtain and maintain an AUO Control Tower Operation (CTO) Certificate.
Comprehensive knowledge of appropriate FAA air traffic control laws, rules, and regulations.
Excellent communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced changing air traffic environment.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment during busy traffic periods.
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to collaborate with subordinates, pilots, and airport personnel.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Proficient in air traffic control procedures, regulations, and technology.
