Position Title Medical Records Supervisor
Job Summary
Oversees the day-to-day operations in Medical Records
Essential Job Duties
Establishes and plans overall policies and goals for the medical records unit in support of V MTH strategic objectives and programming.
Provide supervision to assigned personnel and evaluates employee performance
Follows established policies and procedures to ensure effective and compliant record management and makes recommendations to enhance operations and improves record keeping processes
Review patients’ records for timeliness, completeness, and accuracy
Utilize classification systems to assign clinical codes for patients’ diagnosis, procedures, medical services, and related information.
Maintain and retrieve records for data analysis, insurance and teaching related activities
Maintain accurate electronic record data for collection, storage, analysis, retrieval, and repotting Ensure confidentiality of patient records
Knowledgeable and proficient in utilization of the veterinary coding system to code and categorize patient information for databases and maintain patient medical•and treatment history.
Be current on HIPPA regulations, federal, and state laws and compliance
Know the HIPPA standards and the maintenance of records in compliance with HIPPA regulations.
Communicates with external constituents and submits documents in compliance with state laws and regulations in communication with the VMTH director and/or Hospital Administrator.
Contribute to and adhere to VMTH requirements, policies, and standards
Perform duties with professionalism, quality customer service, and sensitivity to the diversity of the VMTH personnel
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Associate or bachelor’s degree in Medical Records Specialist
Certification by either RHIT, CBCS, CCA, CCS, CPC
3-5 years of supervisory experience in a health care setting
Physical Demands
Skills and Attributes
Working knowledge of Microsoft, Outlook, Excel, Word
Knowledge on federal and state laws regarding proper medical record filing.
Knowledge of electronic filing systems
Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology and procedures
Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills
