Position Information Position Title Director of University Compliance Job Summary The Office of General Counsel (OGC) provides legal services and support to the Board of Trustees, the President, and the senior administrators for Tuskegee University (TU). Under the leadership of the General Counsel, the OGC is responsible for providing legal counsel to TU. The legal practice of the OGC involves a substantial array of topics, including public procurement, governance, and ethics, legislation, capital construction, employee grievances, arbitration, litigation oversight (a compliment of law firms defends litigation brought against TU), student affairs, and the use of real property, among others. The OGC represents TU in interactions with State officials who may regulate the affairs of TU, including the Attorney General, the Governor and staff and members of the State Legislature and staff as well as other state and local agencies and entities. The Director of University Compliance provides leadership and oversight for all institutional compliance, which includes the campus-wide functions of Compliance, Institutional Equity, and Risk Management Initiatives. The position ensures TU is compliant in meeting our university obligations and responsibilities and is proactive, responsive, and collaborative in providing an effective compliance program for faculty, staff, and students. The Director of University Compliance will practice a collegial approach to advising colleagues on compliance with the university policies and procedures and state and federal laws. They will also work to ensure best practices in all compliance programs that serve our students, faculty, and staff. Essential Job Duties The candidate will be expected to handle and oversee a broad range of assignments such as: Provides leadership and oversight to all university compliance functions Oversees the development and implementation of university-wide education, initiatives, monitoring, training, and outreach related to the campus compliance program, including (but not limited to) the Clery Act, and local, state, and federal ordinances and statutes Responds to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and codes of conduct by evaluating and initiating investigative techniques Develops, oversees, and evaluates a system för uniformly handling such violations Ensures thorough and timely investigations. Ensures that the compliance programs throughout the University are effective and efficient in identifying, preventing, detecting, and correcting noncompliance with applicable laws and regulations Serves as the designated Ethics Officer and University official responsible for establishing standards and implementing procedures Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training) Master’s degree Skilled in developing and implementing compliance-related policies, procedures, educational programs, and training Strong presentation and facilitation skills, as well as the ability to adapt those skills to various audiences Demonstrated work history of learning new technology and stay up-to-date with emerging office technologies Physical Demands Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously Physically able to remain seated, frequently to continuously Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties, including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities, including extensive wrist and hand movement Skills and Attributes Demonstrated successful leadership of a comprehensive institutional compliance program Experience in higher education, including knowledge of tenure and other faculty personnel issues and working with highly confidential and sensitive issues Posting Detail Information Posting Number S515 Will this position required travel?
