Position Information Position Title Student Conduct and Behavioral Intervention Coordinator Job Summary Triage all incoming incident reports and complaints submitted to the Office of the Dean of Students, assign reports to appropriate staff, and direct staff in the handling of cases.
Essential Job Duties Resolve very complex and highly sensitive conduct cases.
Interview, maintain ongoing communication with, and provide appropriate educational intervention and resource referrals to complainants, respondents, witnesses, and others involved in the student conduct process Conduct investigations, facilitate developmental meetings, create and assign educational sanctions, and assess student learning.
Interact with families, attorneys, and others on behalf of the university as needed.
Compose formal letters to students regarding complex and serious issues, and routinely compose detailed documentation on meetings with students, investigation progress, and other case-related information.
Supervise and monitors the administrative probation of students sanctioned for disciplinary violation of the Codes of Conduct.
Coordinate the organization of the judicial hearing body and confirms the selection of faculty, staff and student representatives to this body.
Schedule hearing dates for the judicial process and prepares hearing dockets of Reporting Party, Responding Party, and witnesses.
Familiarity with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Clery Act, and the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Community Act.
Serve as a Conduct Officer: Investigate student conduct complaints; advise complainants and respondents of their rights, responsibilities and options; resolve cases informally when possible and refers cases to conflict resolution services or the formal conduct process as needed; maintains all appropriate files related to assigned cases; follow-ups to ensure that assigned conduct sanctions have been completed.
Assist in the management of all aspects of the conduct process including initial meetings with students, conduct hearings, and training Appeals Officers; assist in the management of Conduct protocols Serve as a member of the CARE Team (Behavioral Intervention) which is comprised of representatives from campus law enforcement, mental health services (both psychological and psychiatric), disability services, the faculty, and the Dean of Students Office.
As a member of the team, play a part in the assessment of student needs and/or risk.
Develop appropriate action plans to help minimize risk/harm and that support student success.
Maintain a system for following up with students who have been referred to campus or community resources.
In the absence of the Co-Chairs, may be asked to lead weekly CARE Team (Behavioral Intervention) meetings and convene the group in the event of a case needing immediate attention.
Serve as the primary Case Manager with students whose reported behaviors have been identified as potentially a risk of harm to themselves, others, or property.
Assist in the management of CARE Team (Behavioral Intervention) protocols, trainings, and all communication/outreach efforts including presentations to faculty, staff, and students about the CARE Team and related processes.
Disseminate relevant information to CARE Team members.
Liaise with health care providers on campus and in the community, law enforcement, parents, and colleagues across the institution to ensure compliance with action plans.
Communicate with staff, parents, and families or designated emergency contacts regarding emergencies, including hospitalizations and suicide attempts, to help facilitate a successful return to campus when issues are appropriately resolved.
Develop and maintain relationships with community and campus entities which provide services that may be of value to Tuskegee University students and/or the CARE Team Maintains accurate records of disciplinary sanctions assigned to students and informs them of any delinquency in compliance and/or subsequent action(s) for contempt of the judicial system.
Assist in the assessment of behavioral intervention case management, CARE Team (Behavioral Intervention), and student conduct practices.
Subsequently share results with CARE Team and campus decision makers regarding progress and changes to training/protocol.
Maintains regular office hours, assist with phone calls and office work as needed, and attend staff meetings.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students and/or the Vice President of Student Affairs Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training) Bachelor’s Degree Experience working with college students on a residential campus.
