Description Epidemiologist 1 - Time-Limited District 4 Public Health 301 Main Street LaGrange, GA 30240 (Housed at 160 Bastille Way Fayetteville, Georgia 30214) Hourly Position, 40 hours per week - Position is grant funded through June 30, 2026 Eligible for State health insurance after 90 days of employment.
Job Description: Under supervision, plans, develops, and conducts epidemiologic investigations, surveillance and interventions limited in scope and/or complexity to determine the causes of diseases and implement methods of disease control.
Collects, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares epidemiologic reports.
All District 4 Public Health, County BOH employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency.
As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD).
When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
Job Responsibilities Plans, develops, and conducts epidemiologic investigations, surveillance, and interventions to determine the causes of diseases and implement methods of disease control.
Collects, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares epidemiologic reports.
Assists in the implementation of timely disease intervention strategies to decrease the prevalence of communicable diseases.
Participates in public health emergency preparedness and response activities at the state and local level.
Participate in COVID-19 related emergency preparedness response activities.
Conduct notifiable disease surveillance, case follow up and control activities.
Conduct Regular analysis and interpretation of surveillance data, particularly related to the COVID pandemic and disseminate the information for administrative, program planning and decision-making purposes.
Recommend interventions and control measures in response to epidemiological findings.
Attend all meetings, trainings, and monthly conference calls with DPH Epidemiology staff as directed.
Directs all data analysis and research initiatives for the district office, that includes all Community Health Assessment activities, and leads the Survey Development and Administration Steering Committee.
Minimum Qualifications Epidemiologist 1 Master’s degree in public health or closely related field from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field.
Additional Information Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual (Spanish/English Speaking) Completion of a master’s degree in public health and related experience.
Excellent Presentation Skills.
Closely supervised work experience demonstrating competence in conducting public health surveillance, analyzing epidemiological data, conducting in-depth outbreak investigations, reporting results of analysis of epidemiologic data, and implementing disease control measures and strategies.
Team Player- ability to work well with people with different backgrounds and skill sets.
Advanced skills in the use of SAS software for performing data analysis.
Possess people skills to collaborate and engage with several partners across the state.
Experience linking large date sets using probabilistic matching methodology.
