*Under general supervision and instruction this position is responsible for providing administrative support for department functions.
*
*Qualifications/Knowledge:*
* High school diploma or GED, current valid driver's license
* 1 to 2 years of experience in related field is preferred
* Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
* Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures
* High level of interpersonal skills to manage confidential situations and documentation
* Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
* Knowledge of customer service principles
* Skill in prioritizing and organizing work
* Skill in the provision of customer service
* Skill in the maintenance of files and records
* Skill at handling difficult customers with patience and professionalism; possess the ability to remain composed in high-stress situations
* Skill in oral and written communication
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*
* Welcome and greet visitors, often serving as the initial point of contact for county guests
* Answer calls and greet visitors; provides information and assistance; takes messages; refers to the appropriate personnel
* Perform data entry to input and update applications, permits and other relevant department records into department databases and applications; may assist citizens in completing applications at the front counter or over the phone
* Help maintain department databases and records management systems; assist with open records; updates and maintains business license files and records; inputs permit data to computerized databases; prepares index cards
* Receive customer complaints and inquiries; resolve or forward them to the appropriate personnel
* Process outgoing and incoming mail, including certified mail
* Serves as a notary for Community Development related matters; support the office manager with payroll tasks
* Issues building permits, land disturbing permits and driveway permits; issues approved business licenses
* Schedule appointments, meetings and inspections for departmental staff when requested; assist with preparation of agendas and supporting documents for Community Development meetings and may help with room setup and reservations as needed
* Provide general office management support when office manager is unavailable; provide support to the Marshal's office when the administrative assistant or office manager is unavailable
* Assist with the filing of Community Development documents
* Performs all other related duties as assigned
